The term Western Europe refers to the countries in the westernmost half of Europe, as the literal meaning implies. The term Western Europe has a very significant history and has very strong geographic, political, and cultural aspects. After  the end of World War II, the term western Europe is mostly  used to refer the highly developed countries of western Europe, characterized by their democratic political systems and mixed economies in  alliance with the United States. Under this definition now come The United Kingdom and France, one of the major victors of the war, The Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg countries ,The Federal Republic of Germany, widely known as West Germany, Italy, Ireland ,The Nordic countries: Denmark and Norway, Sweden, Finland, Austria and Switzerland.

The term Western European cuisine when used by westerners, refers more specifically to cuisine in Europe. In this context people often use the word Continental cuisine, especially in British English. Western European culinary delights are very diverse by themselves; however there are common characteristics that distinguish them from cuisines of Asian countries. If we compare the Western European cooking with traditional cooking of Asian countries we will find out that meat is more prominent and substantial in the serving-sizes, and Western chefs usually have a far more in-depth knowledge concerning specific methods of preparing and serving the different cuts of meat than Asian cooks. Western European cuisines also put significant emphasis on sauces as condiments, seasonings and their accompaniments. These foods use a lot of dairy products in the cooking process, except in nouvelle cuisine. Wheat-flour bread is usually an important part of the cuisine and is the most common source of starch in them. They are usually in the form of pastas, dumplings and pastries, although the potato has become a major starch contributor.

The taste of western European food is not limited to the Western Europe only; it has spread all across the globe. Consumers today have been exposed to a greater variety of cuisine as a result their tastes have changed markedly, with the result that flavor of the food has gained greater preference over the health content of the food. Savory snacks and dairy desserts are being seeked out by people in order to satisfy their taste buds.

Western European food culture has brought with itself the trend of ready to eat meals. They are packaged in attractive packets and publicize how much convenience they can bring to a persons lifestyle. They are available in single servings as well as family servings. Some ready to eat foods even have a fork or a spoon inside attracting people to buy them so that they can eat them even in the car to or from work. A few also have small packets of ketchups and sauces inside them to make the food for savory. Much of western cuisine can be paired with beer or wine. Both industries are huge and there are plenty of bartending wine jobs available.

The western European cuisine has brought an entirely new face to the culinary style of the world.
